Logitech X300 review: Mobile music at an affordable price

SINGAPORE — Getting a good portable speaker at a good price can be tricky. Logitech has attempted to offer such a speaker with its latest Logitech X300 Mobile Wireless Stereo Speaker.

SINGAPORE — Getting a good portable speaker at a good price can be tricky. Logitech has attempted to offer such a speaker with its latest Logitech X300 Mobile Wireless Stereo Speaker.

Weighing only 355g, the X300 makes a great portable Bluetooth speaker when you want some music at an outing. The X300 offers a superb mobile audio experience with its amplified sound and clear bass, and the sound does not get distorted even at high volumes. Connecting to the X300 can be done via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm audio cable.

While its design is not anything special, it does look like a bow-tie when placed in a reclined position; it can also be used propped up. The X300 sports a plastic speaker grille that is easier to clean compared with those that come with grille cloths, and has a rubberised back for a better grip.

However, the emphasis on its powerful bass weakened the fullness in the music. The highs sound muddy and reserved, and that is particularly noticeable when certain songs reach their climax. Its middling battery life of five hours is also a letdown.

However, at only S$99, the X300 compares favourably with other slightly more expensive competitors. It even outdid some of them, as while the X300’s audio might be more muffled, it is somehow also less fatiguing even after you use it for hours.

A point to note: The X300 sounds best with guitar-centric tracks and acoustic versions of songs, particularly those backed by a cajon.

The X300 may not be first-of-its-kind or a brilliant new addition to the market, but it is still a sound investment for having struck the right notes in blending sound quality with affordability.

The Logitech X300 Mobile Wireless Stereo Speaker is now available.
