SINGAPORE - Just five months since its launch here in Singapore, UberEATS announced on Thursday (Oct 20) that it will be expanding with a new independent cluster in Tampines.

This is UberEATS' fifth expansion — after Novena, Katong, Serangoon and Bukit Timah— since its July launch which only catered to the Central Business District area.

Tampines runs on a completely independent infrastructure from other UberEATS clusters with new restaurant partners and riders servicing the area exclusively. The area also offers the opportunity to test out a new dispatch solution—namely, bicycles.

“We chose Tampines for a few reasons,” said Evan Graj, UberEATS Singapore’s newly appointed General Manager. Among these are the area’s high population density and the close proximity of residents to food partners, which provides the opportunity to cater to more orders in the evening. “We usually see higher orders in the CBD during lunch—when people go home, we want to offer them the same service during dinner,” explained Graj.

Popular eateries in the location that are already available on the app include A1 Penang Chendol, The Flourist, Chicken Up and Khon Thai Kitchen with the list set to expand. There is also the possibility of partnering with popular hawkers in the residential area, both to meet demand and to offer customers greater variety.

As with the initial launch of the app here in Singapore, there will be no minimum order and no delivery charge, two things that might give the app a slight edge over its competitors.

“We’re looking into expanding further, definitely,” said Graj, sharing that the team is looking into offering the service in other parts of the island and possibly even beyond, to Sentosa.
