Oli committed to promoting Tamil on its airwaves
Has Singapore’s only Tamil radio station reduced the number of transmission hours in Tamil and increased the programming in Hindi? (“More music, less talk for Oli 96.8FM”; June 9, online)

If so, why was this done and at the expense of one of our official languages? Has there been a reduction in the size of the Tamil community here? Will there be any further reduction in Tamil programming in subsequent years?
I refer to Mr Satianathan K Nadarajah’s letter about the recent programming changes on Oli 96.8FM. There is no change to the number of hours allocated for Tamil and non-Tamil programmes.
The timings of the non-Tamil programming have been shifted for better streamlined listening for all listeners. In summary, non-Tamil programming was previously from 9.30am to 10am, 4pm to 6pm and 8.05pm to 8.30pm. Now, it is from 2pm to 4pm and 8.05pm to 9pm.
I take this opportunity to reiterate that Oli is always committed to promoting the official language, Tamil, on its airwaves.
