Opening Hume Station will encourage use of MRT

I share Mr Thomas Tan’s concerns in the letter “Why won’t Hume Station open?” (Oct 17). There is an Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantry at the intersection of Hume Avenue and Upper Bukit Timah Road. Opening Hume Station is surely consistent with measures to encourage a switch to the MRT. If the station is removed, motorists will not have the option of taking the train even if they wanted to.

I share Mr Thomas Tan’s concerns in the letter “Why won’t Hume Station open?” (Oct 17). There is an Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantry at the intersection of Hume Avenue and Upper Bukit Timah Road. Opening Hume Station is surely consistent with measures to encourage a switch to the MRT. If the station is removed, motorists will not have the option of taking the train even if they wanted to.

Additionally, the removal of Hume Station may add to the perception that revenue collection is the true motivation for the ERP gantry. I hope the relevant authorities and Chua Chu Kang GRC’s Members of Parliament will look into the matter.
