While many of their peers have little to no proficiency when it comes to the use of Hokkien or Teochew, Gen Zs Ong Yi Ting and Gareth Quek are making a keen effort to learn and even promote their dialects.
And they are not the only ones.
Co-founder of learndialect.sg Eugene Lee says he has seen a ten to 20 per cent increase in the number of youths enrolling for dialect lessons since the Covid-19 pandemic.
