KLUANG — Three Singaporeans who were driving British-made supercars were stuck by the side of a trunk road here after one of them caused a crash involving the three cars.

The accident occurred at around 9am on Sunday (Oct 29), as one of the McLarens was about to make a turn to enter a junction at Jalan Yong Peng in Johor, Malaysia.

All the drivers escaped unhurt.

Kluang District deputy police chief Nik Azmi Husin said all three Singaporeans were driving McLaren 570S and 720S supercars from the fourth mile heading towards Taman Seri Lambak, a township in Kluang.

"Upon arriving at the scene where the accident occurred, the lead car in front slowed down to enter a junction on the right and the car in the middle slowed down by braking.

"However the last car apparently lost control and slammed into the second car, which in turn hit the lead car in front of it," he said.

Mr Nik Azmi said the case is being investigated.

Videos circulating online of the aftermath of the accident show significant damage to at least one of the three cars. The bonnet of the light blue car was badly damaged with some debris seen on the ground. 

According to Sgcarmart, a Singapore car portal, McLaren 570s is a discontinued model that local distributor McLaren Singapore stopped selling from March 2020. Its last recorded price for a new car was S$698,000 without a Certificate of Entitlement (COE).   

As for the McLaren 720s, Sgcarmart said sales stopped this month with the car replaced by a newer McLaren 750s model. The Business Times reported in March 2017 when the 720s was launched that its price was S$990,000 without COE. NEW STRAITS TIMES
