After arrest, Najib cries political vengeance by Pakatan

KUALA LUMPUR — Just hours after his arrest, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has released a pre-recorded video on his social media accounts, calling today “a day that he and his family are facing worldly trials”.

Mr Najib Razak said that the charges due against him on Wednesday and the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd investigation were politically motivated.

KUALA LUMPUR — Just hours after his arrest, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has released a pre-recorded video on his social media accounts, calling today “a day that he and his family are facing worldly trials”.

The 2.20 minute-long video then showed a montage of Mr Najib’s photos during his time as prime minister, accompanied by a sombre instrumental song.

“If you hear this message, action has been taken against me,” Mr Najib said as the video starts.

Mr Najib apologised for his time during prime minister, saying he was just an imperfect man.

“But believe it, the allegations against me and family were not all true,” he said, adding that rumours and false news were spread to shame him.

He also said that justice will come to all in life and the afterlife.

The video, which featured several images of Mr Najib performing religious worship, also invoked the name of Allah the most merciful and most compassionate, who knows all.

It also showed an image of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was implicated in a corruption allegation in 2016.

Earlier, Mr Najib had claimed that he was a victim of political vengeance by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following his arrest by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier on Tuesday.

Mr Najib also said that the charges due against him tomorrow and the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Bhd investigation were politically motivated.

“The arrest of Datuk Seri Najib Razak by MACC today was to be expected as since taking over the government, the Pakatan Harapan leadership has ‘delivered the guilty verdict’ against the former premier in public,” his spokesman said in a statement.

“Najib will contest these charges and clear his name in court.

“God willing, the truth will prevail,” the spokesman added. MALAY MAIL
