Genting Highlands landslide: All 24 dead victims identified

KUALA LUMPUR —  After four days of search-and-rescue (SAR) operations, all the victims who died in the landslide at Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali, Selangor, have been identified.

KUALA LUMPUR —  After four days of search-and-rescue (SAR) operations, all the victims who died in the landslide at Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali, Selangor, have been identified.

Malaysia's National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) in a statement on Monday (Dec 19) listed the names of the 24 victims whose bodies were retrieved from the site after post-mortem have been completed.

"The identification process was done using three methods, namely, DNA, thumbprint and facial or special marks, or personal belongings identified by the next-of-kin," the agency said in the statement.

The 24 victims comprised 15 adults and nine children. They were:

1. Lim Wei Xin, 36

2. Hong Mei Jing, 38

3. Nurul Azwani Kamaruzaman, 31

4. Lai Lee Yin, 37

5. Tong Kai En, 9

6. Lai Lee Koon, 44

7. Ka Kok Boon, 43

8. Zech Loh Qi Yi, 7

9. Eng Huai Yi, 12

10. Eng Choon Wen, 43

11. Ng Yee Tong, 11

12. Ka Sin Ya Vanya, 6

13. Lam Sook Man, 37

14. Wong Kim Yap, 34

15. Fong Choy Kee, 43

16. Liu Pei Si, 44

17. Daniel Khor Yen, 5

18. Chin Su King, 36

19. Lai Chee Sam, 33

20. Wong Zi Hang, 1

21. Gain Choo Yin, 35

22. Lai See Tin, 33

23. Wong Hao Yee, 6

24. Jonas Lai Ze Kai, 2

Two victims out of the 61 people who survived the landslide were currently receiving medical treatment.

They are Tan Ei Ein, 43, and Ling Zi Xuan, 19, who were admitted to Selayang Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital, respectively.

Rescuers were still looking for nine more victims at the farm near Gohtong Jaya, which was struck by a landslide in the wee hours on Friday. The incident saw 450,000 cubic metres of earth being pushed down towards the farm's campsite.

The rescuers have yet to find any new leads up to press time, and the last victim was found on Saturday evening. NEW STRAITS TIMES.
