KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an investigation into the large sum of money that allegedly went missing from the home of Malaysia's former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

In a statement on Tuesday (March 31), the anti-graft agency said a complaint has been lodged and the case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009.

Though the statement did not name the former minister, it is believed to be Mr Syed Saddiq after he lodged a police report over a burglary at his house.

Mr Syed Saddiq, who is also Bersatu youth chief, yesterday denied that RM250,000 (S$82,676) stolen from his house belonged to the party.

In a statement on Tuesday, he said the value of sum missing has yet to be determined.

“As for now, I cannot confirm anything until the investigation is completed. Media reports saying that the RM250,000 belonged to Bersatu is not true and the exact amount is still unclear.”

He lodged a report at Sungai Way police station, Petaling Jaya on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal told The Malaysian Insight that six individuals close to Mr Syed Saddiq have been ordered to come to the police station as part of the investigation.

A maid had been earlier detained for questioning.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft from a dwelling. THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
