KUALA LUMPUR — A Malaysian commuter has taken to social media to criticise the flawed design of a new bus stop that was erected in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur recently.
The complainant, who goes by the name Yap Swee Seng on Facebook, said although the bus stop was aesthetically pleasing, it was functionally useless.
"I took public transport to work today (yesterday). On my way home after work at night, I took the LRT to KL Sentral to take a bus home.
"By the time I reached KL Sentral, it was raining. I decided to brave the rain and walked quickly towards the bus stop across Public Bank, thinking I could wait for my bus while taking shelter under the newly built bus stop," he said a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 26).
Mr Yap said he was appalled to discover that the bus stop did not prevent people from getting drenched as its roof was full of "holes".
"I wonder whose brilliant idea (it was) to give public transport users a beautiful bus stop that does not provide the basic function of sheltering its users from the rain or the sun."
Mr Yap also questioned whether the construction of the "totally useless" bus stop was a waste of taxpayers' money.
"Are the interest and welfare of taxpayers even in the mind of our public officials?" Mr Yap asked.
Mr Yap's Facebook post has since gone viral, garnering over 3,300 shares as of 11pm on Friday.
The Kuala Lumpur City Council posted a statement on Facebook on Saturday morning, explaining that the bus stop was still under construction and that a transparent layer will be added above the roof of the bus stop.
On Saturday afternoon, a Twitter user noted that installation work on the transparent layer above the bus stop Mr Yap complained about had begun. NEW STRAITS TIMES
