JOHOR BAHRU — The Malaysian police have arrested two men for fighting after their motorcycles collided with each other at the exit of Bangunan Sultan Iskandar’s Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Johor Bahru last Thursday (May 25).

The two suspects have been identified as Malaysians who work in Singapore and travel between the two countries daily.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the fight was believed to have taken place on May 25 at about 4pm when the two motorcyclists were on their way home from Singapore to Malaysia.

“An earlier incident where their two motorcycles scraped with each other triggered the two men to start arguing and challenging each other.

“The verbal shouting then escalated into a fight where both men exchanged punches shortly after they passed the CIQ Complex’s M-Bike counter that was featured in a recent viral video on social media,” said Mr Raub to reporters on Wednesday (May 31) after the Johor Baru South district police’s monthly assembly at its headquarters in Larkin, Johor Bahru.

He was commenting on a 14-second video showing a fight between two motorcyclists that went viral on Facebook.

The video clip showed a man being strangled by another, with other motorists later seen trying to stop the fight between the two men.

The incident also caused congestion on the route after the CIQ Complex, and the motorists had to break up the fight between the two men.

Following the incident, Mr Raub said the police managed to arrest a 27-year-old suspect on Sunday, who has since been remanded until Thursday.

He said that a urine screening for illegal narcotics consumption on the suspect revealed that he tested positive for marijuana abuse.

“Initial investigations also found that the suspect had two previous records related to drug abuse,” he said.

Mr Raub added that police also arrested a 33-year-old man on Tuesday in connection with the case.

He said the police will apply to remand the second suspect on Wednesday.

On the incident, Mr Raub said there were no serious injuries reported and police are investigating the use of a signage as a weapon during the altercation.

He said that the case was investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons. MALAY MAIL
