SARAWAK (Malaysia) — For many years, a 26-year-old man had been holding a grudge against his father for allegedly mistreating him since he was little.

His father allegedly constantly scolded and punished him for even the smallest infraction.

On Monday (Jan 1), the man’s pent up rage came forth in a display of deadly fury during a family gathering at their longhouse in Long Pawah, Sarawak.

The man ran amok, grabbed a machete and slit his 60-year-old father’s throat, killing him instantly.

Earlier before the incident, the man was believed to be drunk when he became embroiled in an argument with his neighbours at the longhouse.

The argument, however, was resolved by the longhouse chief and the man left.

However, the man returned not long after. This time armed with a machete, he attacked his father and slashed his throat, leaving the elderly man to die of massive blood loss.

The man then fled the scene.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Dev Kumar said the longhouse chief alerted the police, who took about two hours to arrive at the scene due to the remoteness of the area.

The man subsequently surrendered himself to the police about 11am the same day.

Police, said Mr Dev, also recovered the weapon used by the man, which he had stashed under the sink in the longhouse’s kitchen.

“The body was sent to the Bintulu Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“The suspect has been remanded for a week from today to facilitate the murder probe,” he said. NEW STRAITS TIMES
