No list of supporting MPs from Anwar Ibrahim, says Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR — Mr Anwar Ibrahim did not submit a list of MPs who support him as prime minister, said Istana Negara.

“In the 25-minute meeting, Anwar presented the total number of MPs who support him.

“But he did not give a list of names to support his bid,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 13).

“As such, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has advised Anwar to respect the due process stated in the federal constitution,” said Mr Ahmad.

He added that Mr Anwar’s meeting with the Malaysian king was initially scheduled for Sept 22 but had to be postponed after Malaysian king Al-Sultan Abdullah underwent treatment at National Heart Institute from Sept 21 to Oct 3.

Mr Anwar, in a press statement after meeting the Malaysian king Tuesday morning, said: “I have presented a list of a convincing majority of MPs who support me to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”

At his 2pm press conference, he also said he had submitted documentary evidence that showed he had majority support from MPs.

This evidence comprised statutory declarations by MPs and confirmations from party heads, he said.

Mr Anwar also urged all quarters to be patient and give the Malaysian king time to meet the heads of other parties for their views.

Various sources are saying that party heads will be summoned to meet the Malaysian king.

But Mr Ahmad, in the palace’s statement on Tuesday, said Istana Negara would be implementing partial movement restrictions as part of the conditional movement-control order in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, which begins on Wednesday.

“Istana Negara will implement a semi-lockdown that has come into effect until a date to be determined later,” the comptroller said. THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
