Perak PKR chief calls out police for not arresting Azmin; claims 'conspiracy' against Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR — Perak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak on Tuesday (July 23) called out Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador for not arresting Economic Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who was implicated in a sex video scandal.

Farhash, who was released from police custody after eight days in police remand, said if the police believed there was a political conspiracy behind the sex video, it was one against PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The political conspiracy is against Anwar Ibrahim. So if the IGP has any credibility, go bring Azmin Ali in.

“Get him, investigate him,” he said as some 100 supporters, armed with placards, greeted Farhash with chants of Reformasi outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters this afternoon.

Farhash also accused the police of being unfair in arresting him, instead of calling him to provide his statement with regards to the case.

“No police report was lodged against me in the first place. In any way I don’t look like Azmin Ali; why couldn’t the cops just call me? I would have gone and given my statement. But instead, they chose to detain me like some murderer, a low-level convict and they tried to impose the harshest penalties on me,” he said.

Farhash claimed that the police had initially wanted to remand him under Section 377B of the Penal Code, which deals with cases of voluntarily committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, but later chose to remand him under a different penal code.

He was remanded under Section 292 of the same Code, pertaining to disseminating obscene material, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which deals with the improper use of network facilities or network service.

Following his release, Farhash said he will focus on spending more time with his family and analysing the current political and media landscape following the sex video scandal.

Former Santubong PKR Youth Chief Haziq was also released on Tuesday on police bail after he was detained for nine days.

Haziq’s legal representative, Mr Ramesh Sivakumar, said they are waiting for further developments in investigations.

“The investigations are almost complete. At the moment, there is no indication that he will be charged but we are waiting for further developments,” he said. MALAY MAIL
