  • Princess Fadzilah wore so many OTT wedding dresses for her recent nuptials we lost count – but hers is just one of many extravagant Brunei weddings we’ve enjoyed over the years
  • Polo-loving Prince Mateen and Princess Azemah continue to turn heads with their sporting prowess, but we’ve not forgotten the late Prince Azim, who once partied with Michael Jackson

BRUNEI — Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah of Brunei’s highly anticipated royal wedding kicked off on January 16 and wrapped up on January 25. Unlike her siblings, Princess Fadzilah has lead rather a private life, which only served to make her nuptials all the more intriguing as her big day drew closer.

And it’s not just Brunei royal family weddings we’re obsessed with. Here’s why we can’t get enough of one of the world’s wealthiest families, as seen in our four biggest stories on them to date.

1. Getting to know the real Princess Fadzilah

As the fourth daughter of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah – the world’s second-longest reigning monarch – and his now ex-wife Mariam Abdul Aziz, Princess Fadzilah was born into one of the world’s wealthiest families. Aside from her status as a princess, she often campaigns for charities and better health care, and is even the captain of Brunei’s national netball team. What can’t this princess do?

2. The Bruneian royal family’s most extravagant weddings

As we were kept on the edge of our seats waiting for photos from Princess Fadzilah’s big day, we took the opportunity to marvel at the details of previous weddings of Bruneian royals. Whether it was Prince Malik’s wedding in 2015 – which was dubbed “one of the most lavish weddings on the planet”, and during which both the bride and groom were dripping in jewels from head to toe – or Princess Majeedah’s wedding at the sultan’s residence attended by 2,000 guests, these royals sure know how to splurge.

3. The lives of Princess Fadzilah’s siblings

As much as we love to follow the antics of Princess Fadzilah, her siblings seem to lead just as fascinating lives. From Prince Mateen becoming the second Bruneian royal with a helicopter pilot’s license, to Princess Azemah representing Brunei in polo at the SEA Games, and the late Prince Azim rubbing shoulders with the likes of Michael and Janet Jackson.

4. Brunei royal wedding of the year

A Brunei royal family wedding was always going to be an extravagant one – and the bride’s outfit highly anticipated. Luckily, Princess Fadzilah didn’t disappoint, whether it was her vibrant red wedding dress and flamboyant crown, or all-white ensemble with tiara and matching necklace combo. Even the blue and grey outfits the happy couple wore during the reception were as show-stopping as the wedding itself! SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
