BANGKOK — Thailand will resume its "Test & Go" quarantine waiver for vaccinated arrivals starting on Feb 1, the country's coronavirus taskforce said on Thursday (Jan 20).

All arrivals must take a Covid-19 test on arrival and five days later, spokesperson Taweesin Wisanuyothin said at a briefing, during which additional "Sandbox" areas were announced, a similar scheme to revive its battered tourism sector, where visitors must stay for one week in a designated location.

In December last year, Thailand had reinstated its mandatory Covid-19 quarantine for foreign visitors due to concerns over the spread of the Omicron variant.

The country halted its "Test and Go" waiver, which meant visitors had to undergo hotel quarantine, which ranges from 7 to 10 days.

The government also halted a "sandbox" programme, which requires visitors to remain in a specific location but allows them free movement outside of their accommodation.

Thailand had reopened to foreign visitors in November, ending almost 18 months of strict entry policies that contributed to a collapse in tourism, a key industry and economic driver that drew 40 million visitors in 2019. CNA
