SINGAPORE — From June 1, non-concession adult commuters will be unable to use their Nets FlashPay cards and Ez-link adult cards that have not been upgraded to SimplyGo to pay for their public transport fares, the Land Transport Authority said on Tuesday (Jan 9).
In a press release, LTA said that this is part of its transition towards the SimplyGo system, which has seen growing adoption among adult commuters.
Commuters may still use these two types of stored-value cards for motoring-related payments such as at Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries and parking charges.
LTA added that it has seen a growing adoption of payment methods using the SimplyGo platform, which was introduced in 2019.
“Today, about two in three adult fare transactions on public transport are made using either SimplyGo Ez-link or bank cards," it said.
“With SimplyGo, cardholders can view their fare history on-the-go, top up their cards using their mobile phones and block lost cards remotely to prevent unauthorised transactions.”
Commuters may check if their card has the SimplyGo logo via the SimplyGo mobile application, EZ-Link app or at any ticketing machine.
Commuters using concession cards — such as seniors, students, Workfare Transport Concession Scheme cardholders and persons with disabilities — will not be affected.
These cardholders do not have to upgrade their cards by June 1, but may choose to do so to enjoy the benefits of SimplyGo, LTA added.
TRANSIT PAYMENTS
LTA advised those using Ez-link adult cards to upgrade them to the SimplyGo system at any ticket machine, Ticketing Service Centre or SimplyGo Ticket Office located at selected bus interchanges and MRT stations.
“Alternatively, adult commuters using these cards can opt for other SimplyGo payment options, including contactless bank cards. Their legacy stored-value cards can be used for other non-transit payments, or be refunded.”
ERP AND PARKING PAYMENTS
LTA said that Ez-link adult cards may still be used for motoring-related payments such as ERP or parking charges, but users should not upgrade their cards to the SimplyGo system.
Nets FlashPay cards will continue to be accepted for motoring-related and retail payments at Nets payment points.
Ez-link adult and Nets FlashPay cardholders can continue to obtain refunds for their cards’ remaining value after June 1 at SimplyGo Ticket Offices or Ticketing Service Centres.
Commuters are also encouraged to download the SimplyGo app for benefits such as viewing fare transactions and top up their card balance remotely.
“For those without the app, they can view their travel transactions and card balance at ticketing machines," LTA said.
“Service ambassadors will be deployed at MRT, LRT stations and bus interchanges with ticketing machines to assist commuters to upgrade their cards as well as to assist them to download and use the SimplyGo app.”
