SINGAPORE — A household contact of the service ambassador at Bishan MRT Station who contracted Covid-19 recently was the only Singaporean among the 451 new cases of infections reported on Tuesday (May 19).
The 30-year-old man — identified as Case 28,708 — reported an onset of symptoms on May 11. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Monday.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the man is a “household contact of Case 28,271”, the SMRT service ambassador who works at Bishan MRT Station. The 58-year-old woman was one of the two Singaporeans reported on Monday to be infected and is a case with no known source of infection.
Singapore’s total number of cases here is now 28,794.
MOH also identified two new clusters of infections. They are located at 2 Sungei Kadut Street 4 and 13 Kaki Bukit Road 4.
The rest of the cases on Tuesday were linked to foreign workers living in dormitories.
MOH said that it continues to pick up many more cases among work permit holders residing in the dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing on these premises, as part of its process to verify and test the status of all workers.
There were no imported cases on Tuesday.
Separately, MOH said that it has been monitoring existing clusters for any further transmission.
“As there have been no more cases linked to NCS Hub (5 Ang Mo Kio Street 62) and CitiWall (34 Kaki Bukit Crescent) for the past two incubation periods, the clusters have now been closed,” the ministry said.
UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CONFIRMED CASES
In all, 10,365 patients have fully recovered from Covid-19 and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 530 patients discharged on Tuesday.
There are still 1,004 patients who are in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and 10 are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 17,403 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-two people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
