SINGAPORE — Pupils at Palm View Primary will have an additional day of home-based learning on Thursday (April 2), after a Primary 2 pupil tested positive for Covid-19, the school’s principal wrote in a circular addressed to parents on Wednesday.
The principal, Mrs Ming Kum, said that the pupil was last at the school on Monday and was well then.
“The student contracted the virus from a family member and has not travelled during the March holidays,” she said. “The student continues to remain in high spirits while receiving treatment.”
Pupils and staff members who had been in close contact with the confirmed case have been placed on leave of absence (LOA) for 14 days from April 1.
Primary schools started their once-a-week home-based learning on Wednesday.
As a precautionary measure, Palm View Primary said it would extend home-based learning for another day and disinfect the school during that time. The school will reopen on Friday.
All pupils and staff were also reminded to continue to observe good hygiene practices and to see a doctor immediately if they felt unwell, read the circular.
“These measures are in place to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for teaching and learning,” Mrs Kum said.
“In the meantime, we understand that your child may be affected as some of their teachers and peers are placed on LOA. We seek your support to talk to your child and discuss ways to look out for and encourage their peers who are affected,” she added.
On Wednesday, the daily update from the Ministry of Health showed that Case 991 is a seven-year-old Singaporean boy who is a family member of Case 992, a 34-year-old female Singapore permanent resident.
Both tested positive on Wednesday and are also family members of Case 886, a 36-year-old Singaporean male who tested positive on Monday.
TODAY has reached out to the school and the Ministry of Education for comments.
