PM Lee to address nation on Covid-19 situation and 'path to new normal' at noon on Oct 9

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be addressing the nation at 12pm on Saturday (Oct 9) on Singapore’s Covid-19 situation and its path “to a new normal”.

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be addressing the nation at 12pm on Saturday (Oct 9) on Singapore’s Covid-19 situation and its path “to a new normal”.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Mr Lee said that members of the public can watch his live address on his Facebook page as well as on all Mediacorp channels.

He stressed that the public should “carry on as per normal”, and that there was no need to “rush out to stock up on items or dine out”.

Last week, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said that the Government would review and streamline its Covid-19 healthcare, testing and isolation protocols as Singapore moves to live with the coronavirus as an endemic disease. This is so that the protocols would be simple enough for residents to follow.

Mr Lee’s address comes as Singapore is racing to contain a recent surge in Covid-19 cases fuelled by the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.

As of Thursday, Singapore had logged a total of 116,864 coronavirus cases and 136 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The number of daily infections has surpassed 3,000 since Tuesday.
