SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will give an update on the Covid-19 pandemic in Singapore at 4pm on Friday (April 3) and it will be broadcast live on television and radio.

In a Facebook post, Mr Lee said that Singapore has responded to the crisis “calmly and systematically, planning ahead and adjusting our measures as the situation changed”.

“The current situation is under control, but we want to take a few more steps now,” he added.

Mr Lee’s address will also be streamed on his Facebook page.

“Let me reassure Singaporeans that our food supply is secure and adequate. Buy just what you need, and share any extra you have with those who need it. Let’s stay calm and united during this challenging period,” he wrote.

This is the third update by Mr Lee on the Covid-19 crisis here.

The first was a recorded message which was televised on Feb 8, a day after Singapore raised its Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (Dorscon) alert level to Orange.

The second was on March 12, after the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a pandemic.

Talk of impending major announcements by the Government intensified on social media on Friday morning, prompting long queues at supermarkets across the island.

As of Thursday, there were 1,049 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Singapore with 18 clusters of infection identified. Five patients have died, with the fifth death — an 86-year-old Singaporean woman — reported on Friday morning.
