SINGAPORE — Warm and humid weather is set to continue in the first half of May, with thundery showers expected over parts of Singapore in the afternoon on most days.

The daily temperature is forecast to reach a high of 34°C on most afternoons during this period, and 35°C on some days, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in the latest weather update on Tuesday (May 2).

Short-duration thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days due to strong daytime heating of land areas, it added.

The showers may extend into the evening on one to two days.

The temporary shifts in the winds to blow from the southwest in the first week of the fortnight could bring a few days of widespread thundery showers and gusty winds in the pre-dawn and morning.

Overall, near-average rainfall is forecast over most parts of the island for the first fortnight of the month.

In its review of April’s weather condition, the weather agency said that the daily maximum temperature was above 34°C on most days, with nine days registering 35°C or more.

The highest daily temperature of 36.1°C was recorded at Woodlands on April 14.

There were thundery showers on most afternoons, with the highest daily total rainfall of 112.1mm recorded at Jurong West on April 20. Most parts of the island recorded below-average rainfall last month.
