SINGAPORE — Drier conditions with lesser rain are expected in the first half of February, with the daily maximum temperature to reach up to 35°C, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said.

In a media statement on Thursday (Feb 1), the weather agency said that localised short-duration thundery showers are forecast on several afternoons, with some days expected to be fair and warm during this period.

Some days in the second week of the fortnight may be windy, with total rainfall for the first half of the month forecast to be near average over most of Singapore.

Due to less rain and cloud cover, the daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 33°C and 34°C on most days.

In its review of the weather condition for the second half of January, MSS said that thundery showers fell over parts of the island in most afternoons and extending into the night on some days.

The highest daily total rainfall of 146.2mm was recorded on Jan 24 at Kallang.

“Above-average rainfall was registered across the island in the second half of January 2024.

“Lower Pierce Reservoir recorded rainfall of 90 per cent above average, and Admiralty recorded rainfall of 3 per cent above average,” the agency said.

During this period, the daily maximum temperature ranged between 31°C and 34°C on most days — with the highest temperature of 34.8°C recorded at Admiralty and Jurong West on Jan 21, and at Admiralty on Jan 22.
