SINGAPORE — Football fans will be able to catch all 64 matches of this year’s Fifa World Cup on Mediacorp’s meWATCH streaming service as well as StarHub and Singtel's platforms, with those who subscribe within the next week paying S$98 instead of the usual S$118.

Singaporeans will also be able to catch nine key matches on free-to-air television via Mediacorp Channel 5.

These are:

  • The opening match between Qatar and Ecuador on Nov 21
  • Five group matches: Portugal vs Ghana (Nov 25), Netherlands vs Ecuador (Nov 26), Argentina vs Mexico (Nov 27), Tunisia vs France (Nov 30), Ghana vs Uruguay (Dec 2)
  • Two semi-finals on Dec 14 and 15
  • Final on Dec 18

This is the second time that the three companies are teaming up to bring World Cup coverage to Singapore.

Sunday's (Oct 30) announcement comes about three weeks before the tournament kicks off in Qatar. It will run till Dec 18 and is the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East.

Viewers who subscribe before Nov 6 will pay an early-bird price of S$98, while those who subscribe later will pay S$118.

This is slightly more than the 2018 early-bird price of S$94.16 and the usual price of S$112.35.

In August, Mediacorp had announced that it would air nine games on its free-to-air channels — the same number of matches offered during the 2018 World Cup held in Russia.

Fans can watch the matches on StarHub’s TV+ and IPTV platforms, Singtel TV, Singtel TV GO and CAST.

StarHub TV+ subscribers will get match highlights, live statistics and an interactive timeline allowing viewers to jump back to key moments.

StarHub’s consumer business group chief Johan Buse said: “Football is a universal language, and nothing shows this better than the World Cup which turns spectators into the most passionate fans.

"We are excited to take to the field once again with Singtel and Mediacorp, bringing the action-packed game directly to our customers, to keep them fully immersed at the heart of live football.”

The 2022 Fifa World Cup will be played in eight venues across five cities in Qatar, including the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, which will host the opening match of the tournament between Qatar and Ecuador.

A total of 32 teams will be playing, including a record six representing Asia – host Qatar, Australia, Iran, Japan, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
